Although the primary purpose of the County Tree Farm is to produce and sell timber, a renewable natural resource, the County Forest also functions as a multi-use recreational area, supported and enhanced by the County Forest Parking Permit program.
2026 County Forest Parking Permits are now available for purchase online at hoodrivercounty.net/parking-permits and at several local shops. These permits are valid through December 2026 and are specifically for parking in designated Fee Parking Zones. They are not required for entry or recreational access.
Since its launch in 2022, the Parking Permit program has significantly enhanced recreational activities within the County Forest. All funds generated through this program are allocated to the maintenance and development of trails and recreational areas.

This map of Fee Parking Zone Staging Areas can be found on the Parking Permit webpage. An interactive real-time web map is available as well that shows current trail status and closures. The zones are clearly marked with signs and additional information. Permits are required at these zones from dawn until dusk.
Parking permits must be clearly displayed either hanging from the rearview mirror or placed on the driver’s side dashboard of vehicles parked in designated areas. Permits can be purchased on mobile devices at staging areas in the County Forest. If you park in designated zones and buy your permit onsite, please write your order confirmation email information on paper (available at staging area kiosks or you can use any scrap paper) and display this paper on your vehicle’s dashboard. Be sure to read and follow all directions for displaying your permit.
Trail Progress in Post Canyon this Winter
Third of three bridges rebuilt on the Lower Seven Streams Trail in Post Canyon. This bridge and others have been funded in part by a grant from Travel Oregon and by proceeds from County Forest Trail Parking Permit revenue.
The three bridge installations, which are mostly completed, received funding through a Travel Oregon grant. The existing bridges on Seven Streams were failing after approximately 15 years in operation. Bridges 2 and 3 have fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) frames with custom Douglas fir decking. The frames are estimated to have a 70 to 100-year lifespan.
In addition to the work on Seven Streams, new trail features are being constructed by Bluefield Trail Design on the 3 Blind Mice (3BM) trail as part of the trail restoration project funded by the Travel Oregon grant.
The Seven Streams bridge replacement planning began over a year ago. Parking Permit funds enabled Hood River County Forestry (HRCF) to partner with Hood River Area Trail Stewards (HRATS) to author the grant. These funds also enabled HRCF to manage and execute the $150,000 award from Travel Oregon. All the HRCF recreation team labor for installing the bridges is funded by Parking Permit revenue. Both Seven Streams and 3 Blind Mice trails are closed currently to facilitate these projects.
Thank you for purchasing a 2026 Parking Permit to support Hood River County Forest recreation and trails!
