Parkdale Rural Unincorporated Community Project to restart soon

County Community Development is gearing up to restart the planning process to designate Parkdale as a rural unincorporated community and bring it into compliance with Statewide Planning Goal 14 (Urbanization). The result of the project may include additional development opportunities within the original community boundary. The project was originally slated for completion in 2008, but was postponed until DEQ-required system upgrades could be made to Parkdale Sanitary District’s wastewater treatment facility.

Community Development is currently in the process of hiring a consulting firm to assist with the project. Once a consultant is hired, a community survey will be mailed out to affected Parkdale residents for their input. At least two community meetings will also be held, including one focused on the Latino community. In addition to meeting with community residents and others, the consultant will work with affected public agencies to determine if adequate public facilities exist to accommodate future development and growth within the community. They will also update the Parkdale Community Plan, developed as part of the original project, to ensure that it meets applicable Oregon administrative rules concerning such communities.

It's hoped that the project begins this summer, with a tentative completion date of spring 2023.
