Hood River County Public Works Priorities
Background
Hood River County is an agriculture and recreation hub, featuring the Historic Columbia River Highway. Many of our industries cater to our robust tourism populations.
The funding allows Hood River County to maintain roadways with chip seals, deferring paving projects. Additionally, the funding provides for ditching, striping, and the replacement of only mandatory signs. Our gravel roads are maintained twice a year when possible and snowplowing, sanding, and sweeping when necessary to keep the County moving.
Investments
Hood River County is asking to support a comprehensive transportation funding package prioritizing operations, maintenance, and safety while finding a diverse and sustainable funding package.
Hood River County Priorities:
- Replace Lost Lake Bridge on the Hood River in Dee – connecting approximately 1,400 residents without an adequate detour. Also carries water for the City of Hood River and irrigation districts.
- Provide adequate maintenance and safety to maintain the roadway system including paving, striping, sign replacement, mowing, ditching
- Complete an asset management system and include condition assessment of all assets in the County including culverts, striping, signage, roadway obstructions
- Have adequate funding to add new roadways into County Road Maintenance responsibilities – have not accepted new roadways since 2011
- Robust evaluation and improvements to increase safety to students accessing local schools.
Projects listed below are region priorities impacting County Roads:
- East Fork Irrigation System – improves pipeline sustainability and eliminates one of our Non-NBI Bridges
- Port and City of Cascade Locks, ODOT – Improve Forest Lane and connect Columbia Highway Bike Trail from Mitchell Point to Hood River
- Fund the replacement of the Hood River/White Salmon Bridge and Bridge of the Gods
