2025 FIRE RESTRICTIONS BEGIN IN HOOD RIVER COUNTY

June 2 – Fire season declared in Hood River County by the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF).

June 9 – Countywide burn ban in effect.

June 10 – ODF declares HIGH fire danger in Hood River County.

June 15 – Fireworks prohibited throughout Hood River County. 

July 28 – Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) Regulated Use Closure (RUC) & Industrial Fire Precaution Level 3 (IFPL Lv3) have gone into effect in Hood River and Wasco County. The RUC restrictions will Close All County Forest Trails To Combustion Engine Motorized Use due to fire danger at this time. E-motos & E-bikes are still permitted. Open campfires throughout the county forest and County Parks/Campgrounds (including fire rings at the County Campgrounds Kingsley, Toll Bridge and Tucker) are also prohibited. Portable cooking stoves using liquefied or bottled fuels are allowed. All vehicles traveling on County Forest roads will be required to have a shovel and a gallon of water or a 2 ½ pound fire extinguisher or larger.

September 29 - Regulated Use Closure (RUC) has been lifted. Combustion engine motorized use (motos, ATV, OHV) is allowed on authorized trails in Hood River County. Campfires are also allowed as long as they are attended and out cold prior to leaving. Industrial Fire Precaution Level  has been lowered to level 1 (IFPL1).

To report a wildfire, call 911 immediately.

  • Open campfires are not permitted throughout the County Forest.
    • Campfires will only be allowed inside fire rings at the County Campgrounds through a special waiver until further notice, including Kingsley, Toll Bridge, and Tucker campgrounds.
    • Campfires must not be left unattended and must be extinguished completely before leaving the campsite.
    • Portable cooking stoves that use liquefied or bottled fuels are allowed in forested areas during RUC. 
  • All vehicles on County Forest roads must be equipped with either a shovel and a gallon of water or a 2.5-pound fire extinguisher or larger.
  • As part of the RUC restrictions, County Forest trails will be closed to motorized use on Middle Mountain, Pinemont, and Fir Mountain (Eastside) due to fire danger.  Motorized Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) use will still be allowed in Hood River County’s Northwest Area Trail System (Post Canyon) through a special ODF waiver until further notice.

Additionally, the following regulations apply to all forestland within 1/8 mile of areas protected by the Central Oregon Forest Protection District:

  • Smoking is prohibited while traveling, except in vehicles on improved roads.
  • Chainsaw use is prohibited from 1 pm to 8 pm.
  • Mowing of dried grass is not permitted from 1 pm to 8 pm.
  • All vehicles on County Forest roads must be equipped with either a shovel and a gallon of water, or a 2.5-pound fire extinguisher or larger.
