May twilight at Kingsley Reservoir
County campgrounds open for the season
Three Hood River County campgrounds opened in May, and the season continues through October. Tucker Park and Toll Bridge Park are operated by the County Public Works Department, while Kingsley Campground is operated by the County Forestry Department. Campfires are permitted in campground fire rings until fire season restrictions are declared, however, portable propane cooking stoves and lanterns with shut off switches are allowed.
Tucker Park campground has 88 campsites for overnight camping, including sites for small campers (under 30 foot), tents, and one small group site (up to 10 people). Tucker Park is located off the Dee Highway near the Odell turn-off, and also has a day-use area.
Toll Bridge Park has 83 campsites, including partial hookup sites (water and electric) for RVs and trailers, single tent sites, two small group tent sites (up to 10 people), and one large group site (up to 20 people). Toll Bridge Park is located off Highway 35 south of Parkdale next to the Hood River and includes a day-use area.
Tucker Park and Toll Bridge Park campsites are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Sites allow either one tent, one RV, one Sprinter Van, or one vehicle with trailer, plus one additional non-sleeping vehicle. Some exclusions apply for group sites. Restrooms and coin-operated showers are available throughout both parks. Kingsley Reservoir is open for day-use and camping. There are 36 campsites ranging from 50’ to 100’ long. Sites are suitable for tents and RVs. Campsites are primitive, and there is no potable water source and only vault toilets. Camp sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Kingsley Reservoir has a new campground, day use and staging area. The staging area is popular for ATV trail access as well as non-motorized trail options. The day use area also has a boatramp and the trout fishing is getting quite a bit of attention. No combustion engines are allowed on the reservoir.
For the Kingsley day use and the staging areas, Hood River County Parking Permits are required. A daily pass is $5 and an annual pass is $30. Hood River County Parking Permits may be purchased online, or at several of the local bicycle shops including XTC Truck and Toy or Fun Country in The Dalles.
